Rochelle A. Makela-Goodman

Director, Gift Planning, Princeton University

As director for the Gift Planning department within Advancement at Princeton University, Rochelle manages a team of philanthropic advisors who assist donors with deferred, life income, and estate gifts that advance the mission of Princeton. In her previous position as assistant vice president for campaign at Lehigh University, Rochelle led and oversaw the strategy and execution of Lehigh's comprehensive campaign, transforming strategic ideas into an actionable agenda. She is an experienced principal gifts officer with a passion for matching a donor's philanthropic goals with university priorities in ways that advance education, research, and the human condition. In her previous role as assistant vice president for leadership gifts at Lehigh, she led a team of 16 frontline major gift officers and transformed the major gift office into a data-driven operation focused on philanthropic gifts of $50,000+ for university priorities. She has held previous positions as director of Corporate & Foundation Relations at Centenary College in NJ and as director of Foundation Relations at Lehigh University where she led faculty task forces and fundraising campaigns that resulted in research centers, laboratories, and faculty endowments to advance life science, global education, K-12 educational leadership, and student wellness and diversity efforts. Prior to her 25 years of experience in academe, Rochelle held management positions in marketing and sales in the insurance and printing industries. She is a graduate of Centenary University and is currently completing a master's degree in finance at the American College for Financial Services. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Centenary University and is a volunteer to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mercer County and Latino Princetonians. Outside of the office, Rochelle performs with bands (singer / guitarist) through WNTI radio and beyond, including performances with Nine of a Kind, The TriTones, The Trevor B. Power Band, and Mariachi Montana del Sur.
